The achievements of Ecurie Ecosse are nothing short of remarkable. Founded with a meagre budget in 1951 by F1 racing driver-turned entrepreneur David Murray, the tiny Edinburgh-based team would go on to defy all odds and win back-to-back Le Mans titles.
Ecurie Ecosse drivers Ron Flockhart and Ninian Sanderson made history in 1956 by winning the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. The team shook the world of motor racing as they overcame giants such as Ferrari, Lotus and Maserati.
The following year, Flockhart partnered with Ivor Bueb and Sanderson with John Lawrence to secured an incredable1-2 finish. Flockhart and Bueb’s distance record of 4,397km would not be surpassed until 1961.
Ecurie Ecosse ran a Jaguar D-Type in their famous metallic blue colours during 1956 and 1957. Recently the 1956 Le Mans winning Ecurie Ecosse D-Type was auctioned at Sotheby's. It was bought for £16.65 million, making it Britains most expensive car.
